On the 8th & 9th November, our school lost all of its modern accoutrements - yes, even the class SmartBoards had to go! - and became transported back in time to when jolly Queen Victoria was on the throne.

Of course, our Victorian building was an ideal setting for this kind of historical role-playing.

Mr Stevenson paced the corridors, demanding respect and wielding his cane wherever he went!

All the staff and pupils dressed up and the atmosphere was strangely quiet and somewhat intense for the two days of Victoriana.

Out went white-boards, and in came slate boards - not much difference, really, except for the horrible scraping noises made when the writing utensils hit the slate!

For half a day - in each class - we had a guest teacher: Mrs Garside. This rather imposing lady showed the pupils how to add pounds, shillings and pence and helped them to use ink pens and blotting paper.

But, beware! Make sure you work hard, or....

...you may end up feeling a bit silly!

Even the gruel served at dinnertime went down well!

Our playtimes, too, were kept strictly to Victorian simplicity and frugality. Having said that, the old games and toys went down a treat with all our pupils.

Brrr! You have to keep moving on these cold Autumn mornings!

Some preferred to just huddle together for warmth...

...while others enjoyed a good old skip!
